As we posted earlier, Samsung has launched its new M-series smartphone in India, the Samsung Galaxy M31s with a starting price of Rs. 19,499. The features and specifications are the same, as we mentioned in the earlier post. But surprisingly, they used Sony’s new IMX682 64MP sensor instead of Samsung’s 64MP GW1 sensor. The large 6000 mAh battery, a center punch-hole Super AMOLED display, the same Exynos 9611 SoC, 64MP quad-rear cameras, 25W fast charging, Single Take, and new gradient colours are key features of Galaxy M31s
In terms of design, the Galaxy M31s now comes with two new colour gradients Mirage Black and Mirage Blue. Now we have a center punch-hole display instead of waterdrop notch in M31. The handset is made out of plastic and comes with a side fingerprint scanner, and a fast face unlock. the device measures a thickness of 9.3mm
The Samsung Galaxy M31s sports a 6.5-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The pixel density of the screen is at 403 PPI. The Super AMOLED panel comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a 91% screen-to-body ratio. The center punch-hole cutout on the front houses a 32MP selfie camera. The Galaxy M31s comes with Widevine L1 certification to watch high definition content across streaming platforms.
Under the hood, Galaxy M31s is powered by the same Exynos 9611 octa-core SoC found on its predecessor. It is accompanied by a 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB (UFS 2.1) built-in storage with expandable storage support through micro SD. the device will run on Android 10 out of the box with Samsung’s OneUI 2.0 out-of-the-box
Galaxy M31s sports a 64MP quad-camera setup, The 64Mp primary sensor is the new IMX682 sensor from Sony, not the expected Samsung’s 64MP GW1. The new IMX682 sensor is very similar to highly praised IMX686 seen in POCO X2. Galaxy M31s also comes with a new 12MP Ultra wide-angle lens taken from Galaxy A71 with the 123-degree field. Galaxy M31s also has a dedicated 5MP Macro lens for close-up shots and a 5MP depth lens to support portrait shots with live focus.

Samsung is also marketing various features like Single Take, Smart Selfie Angle taken from their flagship series, Switch Camera While Recording, and Night Hyperlapse feature.
Battery and charging
As far as the battery life is concerned, Galaxy M31s comes with a massive 6,000mAh battery the same as in its predecessor. However, they bumped up the fast-charging speeds with 25W Type C fast-charger in the box compared to 15W on its predecessor. The 25W can fill the massive 600mAh battery in 97* minutes. The M31s also has reverse charging to charge other devices.
Pricing and Availability
Galaxy M31s will come in two memory variants – 6/128GB and 8/128GB and will be available at Amazon.in, Samsung.com, and other select retail stores from 12 PM on August 6. The device priced at INR 19499 for the 6/128 GB variant and INR 21499 for the 8/128GB variant.
Our Thoughts on Galaxy M31s
With every generation, Samsung continues to hike the price of its M3_ series of smartphones. This time it is now close to 20K INR mark but with new features like faster charging and better cameras. It seems Samsung emphasizes cameras this time, mainly due to the presence of IMX682 and a new upgraded ultra-wide-angle lens. But the chip powering the device remains the same with comparing capabilities to SoCs seen in Rs. 11-12K priced phones from Chinese counterparts make it hard to recommend to millennials. But Galaxy M31s can be the right choice for media conception purposes with good cameras and great battery life.
