Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro Coming to India on October 15: Features, Expected Price and Our Thoughts 8

Xiaomi officially confirmed that the recently launched Mi 10T series in the Global market is coming to India on Oct 15 and will be available for sale in the Flipkart’s Big billion days, 2020. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Mi 10T series for Indian Market (yeah, some significant differences are there) and it’s expected prices

Xiaomi Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro, and Mi 10T Lite: Overview

Unlike the previous Mi 9T series (Redmi K20 Series in India), the new Mi 10T series are more premium offerings and in line with the existing flagship Mi 10 Series. The Mi 10T series consists of Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro and a mid-range offering Mi 10T Lite.

The Standard Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro gets the highest configuration like Snapdragon 865, Adaptive 144hz IPS LCD, 64MP/108MP camera, 33W fast charging in a premium flagship design.

On the other hand, the Lite Model is more affordable and comes with upper mid-range Specifications like Snapdragon 750G, adaptive 120hz IPS LCD, 64MP camera, 33W in a plastic frame instead of the aluminium frame.

That said, Xiaomi didn’t confirm Mi 10T lite India launch yet, and it is unlikely to happen on Oct 15. Still, it already got  Bluetooth and BIS certification means it may going to launch in India very soon.

Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro: Features and Our Thoughts

Design

Both Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro look the same and come with the premium build quality. They come with flat Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, curved Gorilla Glass 5 on the back and aluminium alloy frame. A rectangular-shaped large camera module on the top left with a big camera bump on the back and a small punch hole camera on the top left corner of the display. They both share the same side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which also doubles as the power button, and it unlocks the device instantly.

Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro Coming to India on October 15: Features, Expected Price and Our Thoughts 9

In terms of colours, Mi 10T comes with Cosmic Black and Lunar Silver. On the Other hand, Mi 10T Pro comes with an extra colour option called Aurora blue along with the other two. As you can see from the above table, Mi 10T Pro weighs 2 gram more probably due to a large camera sensor.

The Indian variants rumoured to feature 6000mAh battery instead of 5000mAh battery. So it will add more weight and bulk to an already heavy and chunky(9.3mm) body.

From the design and build standpoint, they look and feel as premium as any other premium flagship out there. So Xiaomi nailed this section.

Display

Both Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro share the same 6.67 inches FHD+ AdaptiveSync 144Hz Display. Having an LCD might raise some concern about display quality, especially considering the Realme X3 series got huge backlash due to low outdoor visibility. But nothing to worry here, In Initial Impression videos from international reviewers no one complained about the display panel and said it has good outdoor visibility. The Specification page itself directly shows it.

The display can attain sustainable brightness up to 500 nits and peak brightness up to 650 nits, which is higher than typical LCD’s with 400 0r 450 nits. In terms of colours, the display rated 96% of NTSC colour gamut and 98% of DCI-P3, which is pretty good for LCD. Also, the display can produce very natural colours (TrueColor display) and has JNCD(just noticeable colour difference)≈0.39 Delta E≈0.63, which is similar to high-end AMOLED displays.

Mi 10T series is the first device to get an AdaptiveSync display. It means it can refresh at various refresh rates based on the content. Both Mi 10T and Mi10T Pro Supports AdaptiveSync in 30Hz/48Hz/50Hz/60Hz/90Hz/120Hz/144Hz.

So when you are scrolling through the UI it uses 144Hz for maximum smoothness, In gaming, it will use 60Hz,90Hz,120Hz,144Hz based on game’s maximum supports. When you stream content, the display only needs to refresh at 30Hz/60Hz because the contents are either available at 30/60FPS. So the display try to achieve the perfect balance between content enjoyment, smoothness and power draw (battery efficiency)

The Display supports HDR10, and Mi 10T Series comes with 360° ambient light sensor for perfect auto-brightness adjustment and supports MEMC(transform 24fps/25fps/30fps footage into 48fps/50fps/60fps videos) algorithm(not recommended to turn ON)

Xiaomi went with a higher refresh rate LCD panel instead of AMOLED display with Mi 10T Series. Considering the LCD Panel quality, they can get a good quality 90Hz AMOLED display here for the same price. If it was a 90Hz AMOLED vs 144Hz LCD, I would probably prefer 90Hz AMOLED, but here I will not complain because it seems like Xiaomi used the best LCD panels out there in the market.

Performance

Under the hood, both Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with Latest LPDDR5 Ram and Fastest UFS 3.1 Storage. One of these Indian variants may come with SD865+. Anyway with SD865, 144hz refresh rate,  fastest RAM and ROM with an optimised user interface can give one of the best experiences out there.

The Mi 10T Pro comes with 8GB RAM, paired with 128GB and 256GB internal storage options. The vanilla Mi 10T comes with either 6GB RAM or going up to 8GB. However, it’s storage remains the same. But we are quite sure that Indian models of these devices will have a different configuration as always. According to one reliable tipster, the device may get up to 12GB Ram.

Software

Mi 10T series comes in Android 10 out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 skin. The latest iteration of MIUI is well optimised for higher refresh rate panels. So the performance will be very smooth. MIUI is one of the most feature-rich users interface out there, but you will miss the Always-on Display (AOD) feature in Mi 10T Series due to LCD

Also, you will get a cleaner version of MIUI compared to Redmi series, which usually packs a bucket load of ads and bloats. If you have a Redmi Phone and are frustrated with the ads and bloats, you can check out our article to remove ads and enjoy a clean MIUI experience.

Camera

The camera is one area where Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro differ. Mi 10T Pro features triple camera setup. The large primary 108MP Samsung HMX sensor uses pixel-binning to deliver shots comparable to a 27MP 1.6-micron pixel camera. You can also snap 33MP photos while recording 8K videos on the phone.

Other sensors in the Mi 10T Pro’s rear camera array include a 13MP ultra-wide camera (advertised as 123-degree FOV, but seems only 117 degrees) and a 5MP (2 cm focus) macro camera. For selfies, the phone uses a 20MP camera.

The Mi 10T simply substitutes the 108MP sensor for Sony IMX682 64MP primary camera that results in 16MP pixel-binned shots. The rest of its camera configuration remains the same as the Pro model.

Features on the Camera App

Xiaomi offers a lot of cool modes in their camera like vlog mode, clone mode, front & back and long exposure modes like moving crowds, starry sky, star trails, oil painting, light painting, neon trails.

Our Thoughts on Camera

According to International reviewers, 108MP primary sensors take good daylight shots with good dynamic range, colours, etc. It doesn’t have any focusing issues like other 108MP camera phones like S20 Ultra. Like every 108MP out there, it has a creamy natural depth of feel due to large sensor size

As the light gets dimmer, Mi 10T Pro shoots slightly overexposed photos like recent Xiaomi phones, but night mode fixes it to give good quality night photos

In Mi 10T the Primary Sensor is IMX 682 which was seen in POCO X3 recently. Currently, there is no Mi 10T content out there. Still, we can easily guess it would perform relatively well due to better ISP(image signal processor) in SD865 and Xiaomi camera optimisation algorithm.

Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro Coming to India on October 15: Features, Expected Price and Our Thoughts 10

The rest of the camera performance is OK and nothing impressive. In short, we can expect nearly the same camera performance of Mi 10 in Mi 10T Pro because they share the same camera sensors (a single 5MP Macro instead of 2MP depth+2MP Macro) and the same processor. In the case of Mi 10T, the Camera performance will be slightly better than POCO X3 because it has a better ISP in the same camera hardware.

I would love to see the custom 48MP sensor used in Mi 10 Ultra as the primary sensor in both of these devices and use a good telephoto sensor instead of 5MP Macro. The Custom 48MP sensor in the Mi 10 Ultra was made by OmniVision along with Xiaomi(means slightly cheaper compared to Sony or Samsung sensor) and still produced the best quality photos than any of the 108 MP cameras from Xiaomi.

Battery Life and Charging Speed

Both Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro features 5000mAh battery with 33W wired charging support. The in-box 33W wired charger takes 59 minutes to charge the device, which is pretty great.

There is also some speculation that Indian models will get 6000mAh instead of 5000mAh and one of the devices will have 65W charging. Take it with a pinch of salt, because if they opt for 65W, the battery capacity will take a hit because they need to use dual cell batteries. So we think there are 3 Chances…

  1. We will get the same battery capacity and fast charging as the Global model.
  2. Both will get battery upgrades to 6000mAh with the same 33W fast charging.
  3. Mi 10T will have 6000mAh battery along with 33W fast charging, and Mi 10T Pro will have around 5500mAh battery with 65W fast charging – chances are less.

Miscellaneous

  • Haptic feedback
All of the international YouTubers mentioned Mi 10T Pro has a very good haptic feedback engine with their X-linear haptic motor
  • Audio Quality
Dual stereo speakers and the speaker output quality is fine..but not great
  • Liquid cool technology
  • Multi-functional NFC
  • IR Blaster
  • Hi-Res DAC (24-bit/192kHz audio)

Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite: Features and Our Thoughts

Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro Coming to India on October 15: Features, Expected Price and Our Thoughts 11

Design

The Mi 10T Lite shares a lot of similarities with the Poco X3 with the circular camera housing and centre punch hole. It also sports a plastic frame like Poco X3, but it has Gorilla Glass 5 back instead of Plastic back. Also, the colour options are much better than Poco X3. But it lacks any IP rating like its premium sibling compared to Poco X3’s IP53 rating.

Display

Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro Coming to India on October 15: Features, Expected Price and Our Thoughts 12

The Mi 10T Lite also features the same display as Poco X3, with one difference. The new Mi 10T lite supports AdaptiveSync and can refresh at 30Hz/48Hz/50Hz/60Hz/90Hz/120Hz/144Hz based on content. Poco X3 also has a dynamic refresh rate, and maybe they are exactly same (but according to our knowledge it can only refresh at 60Hz,90Hz and 120Hz)

Performance

The Mi 10 Lite is equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 750G. The processor stacks just under the Snapdragon 765 series which is seen in the OnePlus Nord and performs better than the SD732G seen in the Poco X3.

Camera

The Mi 10T Lite features quad rear cameras – a 64MP (IMX 682) primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. So only the ultra-wide sensor is different from Poco X3 (13MP ultra-wide). On the front, the MI 10T has a 16MP shooter for clicking selfies instead of 20MP on Poco X3.

Battery

Mi 10T Lite comes with 4820 mAh with 33W fast charging and it will take 59 minutes to full charge.

The rest of the specs are very similar to Poco X3. If you are interested check the above table for more details..
